Google's Beast File

I know there are probably a few readers out there getting tired of hearing about Google all the time. However, a post came up recently concerning a short television clip about Google that really is both amusing and annoying at the same time. I found the post on the Google Operating System blog, and I suggest you watch the video.

The clip was a "Hungry Beast" clip on ABC1 Australia, and describes all about Google's advertising empire and how they are using your DNA to get better advertising results... Yes, they really said this. Sure they were not suggesting it in total seriousness, but whoever created this clip has some serious misconception about Google. Even more amusing are the statistics they give in the video. They're wrong, or at least four years outdated. They say Google receives over one billion searches daily, but that has already doubled by now.

Just my overall opinion is that too many people are ridiculously freaking out about Google and their control over your data. Sure Google could take over the world if they really wanted to, but they haven't. In fact, the only times Google really gets in trouble is when they are trying to help people, such as the Google Books lawsuit when they wanted to create the largest online library, or Google Buzz when they were trying to improve the social networking experience. This does not sound like the work of a tyrant, and I doubt Google would risk their reputation by doing something legitimately stupid or evil.

Anyway, I will not say any more. Watch the video yourself, and tell me what you think.
